Powerbook Hard Drives
PowerBook G4 Hard Drive?
I am replacing the drive in a powerbook G4 and it doesnt see the drive when I try the load on the OS. I have searched some forums and they say I need to format and partition the drive to be seen by the OS. I have no idea how to do this as every post says I need to do this in the OS itself. Is there a way to do this without having the OS installed?
Insert the installation disc. Restart your laptop and hold down the “C” key at the chime.
The computer will now boot from the installation disc. It takes a few minutes.
When it is completely up and running from the disc, go to the top drop down menu that says Utilities. Select Disc Utility.
When that is open, your new hard drive should appear in the window on the left. Select it, click “Erase,” at the top of the window, select Mac OS Extended as the Volume Format. Give it a name. Click the Erase button and follow the prompts.
