Laptops For Schools
Should schools provide laptops for students ?
Were doing these persuasive speeches, and here’s mine. Should schools provide laptops to the kids, when they leave the school they have to return them, if u lost or broke your laptop u would have to pay a fine. Also bad websites would be blocked so they could’nt look up bad stuff !

No.
1) It’s far too expensive. There are plenty of better things that the school could spend the money on.
2) They don’t provide much of a benefit. If it’s to use the software, then there are school computers and most subjects rarely use specialist software. If it’s to use the internet, then unless they already have a home computer, they could only use it at school anyway (unless they had the far too expensive mobile internet – another cost for the school).
3) The bad press. Not too long ago, a school which did this was found to be spying on the students through the built in webcams, as a ‘security feature’. This gave the idea considerable bad press, since it was transmitting images of them at home, possibly even when changing. There might be resistance because of that case, even if the laptops chosen don’t have cameras.
4) Kids are crafty. There’s always at least one who knows one of the many ways around the filters to keep ‘bad sites’ out, willing to show the others how.
5) If they lost their laptop then the fine would have to be very expensive to replace it. If they broke it, it might not even be their fault – laptops and computers is general often stop working for no foreseeable reason – because they’re old, because the software update clashed with something, etc.
