what is the best processor for real time computer vision?
We’re trying to do a new video surveillance system which analysis movements in the real time videos which comes from more than 30 camera. We need to choose a good processor to achieve our aim. As I saw generally servers are using intel Xeon processor, but I also heard i7 processors is the best processor. We can’t decide which is the best for us. Can anyone say about them ?
For pure processing power, i7s and current generation Xeons are comparable. They’re also expensive.
I’m not sure any single processor is going to handle a 30 camera data stream in real time. Depending on your budget and time frame, I’d suggest using a mainstream i7 950 ($300) based machine to develop the software on a few cameras at first and figure out overall processing need per camera. Armed with that data, you can decide if a single i7 processor can handle the full load (in which case you could simply replace the processor if you wanted) or a mutli-processor server will be needed to handle the full load (Xeons are needed for this case).
